We're happy to announce our call for sponsors. Reach out to enthusiastic Python developers, users and professionals worldwide by presenting your company at this year’s EuroPython 2021 Online conference, from July 26 - Aug 1, 2021!
Sponsoring EuroPython guarantees you highly targeted visibility and the opportunity to present yourself and your company in a professional and innovative environment.
We have adjusted our conference sponsor packages for the online format and lowered their prices, giving you an excellent opportunity to reach out to attendees from all around the world. You can run your own virtual rooms, text channels, run competitions, tutorials or give product presentations throughout the conference days.
In the EuroPython community, diversity and inclusion are one of our core values. Therefore, we are launching a Speaker Mentorship Program in this year's edition.
We know how tough it is to prepare for a talk, find & organize the right content around the topic and more so when it's the first time. So what could be better than getting guidance and support from within the community itself.
By means of this program, we would like to bridge the gap between a developing and experienced speaker. Hence, we are looking for mentors and mentees to sign up.
Activities
We have included the activities below in the mentorship program:
One-to-One Mentorship Program A mentee from the underrepresented or marginalized group in the tech industry will be matched with an experienced speaker.
Ask Me Anything about the CFP Workshop An AMA session will be held on the 29th April 2021 (Thursday). We encourage those who have limited or no experience of submitting papers to EuroPython to join and ask questions. Questions can range from talk ideas, what makes a good proposal to what is the selection process of the talk. Register for the workshop.
First-Time Speaker Workshop (Date TBC) EuroPython will provide a speaker training session to all selected speakers regarding how to set up the technology to present at EuroPython. However, we would like to give the first-time speakers more support about how to prepare their talk and what to expect when presenting a live talk at EuroPython.
Expectations from Mentors
They should have past speaking experience at conferences similar to EuroPython. They are expected to take 4 one-hour sessions with their mentee to:
Prepare their CFP submission.
Review their CFP before submission.
If the mentee is selected, help them prepare the talk. If the mentee is not selected, help them submit to another meetup/ conference.
Help mentee to rehearse for their talk
You will also be invited to join the panel of the Webinar Workshops.
Expectations from Mentee
They should have a preselected topic or an idea for their talk with some content. They recognize themselves as underrepresented or from a marginalized group in the tech industry, and/or have no prior or little speaking experience, but would like to give a talk in EuroPython 2021.
Update: We've extended the deadline for the Call for Proposals until Sunday, May 16, 23:59:59 CEST.
We're happy to announce the EuroPython 2021 Call for Proposals (CFP) and are accepting proposals for talks, training sessions, workshops, panels, poster sessions, helpdesks and other interactive sessions at EuroPython 2021.
We will leave the CFP open from today until Sunday, May 16, 23:59:59 CEST.
To submit a proposal, please log in to the site (or create an account first) and then proceed to the CFP page:
We're looking for proposals on all aspects of Python from novice to advanced level, including but not limited to: applications, frameworks, Data Science, internals or topics which you're excited about, your experiences with Python and its ecosystem and creative or artistic things you've done with Python.
EuroPython is a community conference and we're eager to hear about how you use Python in your professional and personal activities.
Feedback has shown that attendees are interested in advanced topics, we would like to encourage more submissions with an advanced level scope for EuroPython 2021. Please also note that we have added back training and workshop submissions. We had to remove those last year due to lack of resources.
Speaker Mentoring Program
This year we are running a mentoring program to encourage more first time speakers to submit proposals, as well as provide training on delivering talks effectively. We are also looking for more mentors to help with the program.
Please check the CFP page for details on the mentoring program.

Grant Eligibility
EuroPython is a wonderful place to meet and share your experience with Python developers from Europe and all around the world. Our goal is to support people who want to help improve the Python community: conference speakers, active developers from smaller Python communities and open source contributors.
Our grants are open to all people in need of financial aid. We take into account the following criteria during the selection process:
Contributors: Potential speakers/trainers of EuroPython (those who have submitted a proposal), volunteers and other contributors to EuroPython and/or Python community projects.
Economic factors: We want everybody to have a chance to join EuroPython, regardless of economic situation or income level.
Country based: As EuroPython 2021 will be run online and there may be participants joining outside of Europe, we understand not all countries have the same income levels and cost of living.
Diversity: We aim to be the most diverse and inclusive event possible.
For EuroPython 2021, we'll have more than 10 training sessions and workshops spread across two days. There is a combined ticket available for those who wish to attend both.
We also added a new livestream-only ticket for getting access to the live streams. It's free, but you'll miss out on the interactivity.
Ticket types
Combined tickets: Access to the whole seven day conference, including training sessions, workshops, conference days and sprints.
Conference + sprint tickets: Access to conference days and sprints.
Sprint-only tickets: Free access to the sprint days only.
Livestream-only tickets: Free access to the live streams of the conference sessions only. No access to the conference system.
Ticket tiers
Business tickets: For people using Python to make a living and people who want to support our grants program.
Personal tickets: For people enjoying Python in their free time or as a freelancer.

Participate in Talk Voting
With a conference or combined ticket, you will also be able to tell us what you’d like to see at EuroPython 2021 by voting on the submitted talk proposals. Talk voting will start after the end of the Call for Proposals (CFP).
Guido van Rossum Core Developer Grant
For Python Core Developers, we have put a special grant in place, which will allow core developers to get free combined tickets to the conference.
If you want to sign up, please check our grant page for details on how to apply.
During the last few weeks the team has been hard at work making final changes to the website, and we are excited to announce the launch of the conference website for EuroPython 2021 today !
We have also migrated the accounts from last year's website to the new one, so you should be able to login right away. That said, we still recommend changing your password as best practice. If you don't have an account yet, you can easily create one to be ready for ticket sales.
Quick Summary
EuroPython 2021 will be run online from July 26 - August 1:
Two workshop/training days (July 26 - 27)
Three conference days (July 28 - 30)
Two sprint days (July 31 - August 1)
The sessions will be scheduled to ensure they are also accessible for those in the Asian and Americas time zones.
More updates
Ticket sales will start on Monday, April 19. We have refined the ticket structure for EuroPython 2021 to make it easier to understand and added a table outlining the differences between the various ticket types.
Financial aid will once again be available, since we've grown our team. We'd like to enable more people from lower income countries to attend. Applications can be filed starting Wednesday, April 21.
The Call for Papers (CFP) will be opened on Monday, April 26. If you want to prepare, you can already have a look at the CFP page on the website. The CFP will stay open for two weeks. A mentorship program for first time speakers is planned as well.
We will send out more detailed posts on the above items in due course. Please subscribe to our newsletter if you want to make sure to get all information.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have worked with our designer Jessica Peña to come up with a logo which reflects both our desire to come together online during the pandemic and shows how well our community is interconnected around the world.
We will soon make EuroPython 2021 merchandise available with the new logo in our EuroPython merch shop, so you can order t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps and mugs to show your support and love for the conference.
This year's conference will mark the 20th edition of the EuroPython conference.
Since we started touring Europe in 2002 in Charleroi, Belgium, we have come a long way. The conference has grown from the initial 240 to around 1200-1400 attendees every year. The organization had started with a small group of people in a somewhat ad-hoc way and has now grown into a well structured team backed by the non-profit EuroPython Society (EPS), while still keeping the fun spirit of the early days.
EuroPython 2002 was the first major all volunteer run event for Python. A lot of other conferences have since emerged in Europe and we're actively trying to help them wherever we can, with our grants program, growing conference knowledge base and our Organizers' Lunch, for which we regularly invite representatives of all European Python conferences to get together to network, exchange experience in organizing events community building and understand how we can most effectively help each other.
To celebrate the anniversary, we took a deep look into our archives and have put together live website copies of the last few years, going back all the way to EP2009, which was held in Birmingham, UK. For previous years, archive.org stored some pages of the websites, so let's do a quick tour of 20 years of EuroPython:
Update 2021-03-06: The call for volunteers is closed now. Many thanks to all the volunteers who signed up ! We may do another call closer to the event, in case we find that we need more help.
The EuroPython 2021 organization is starting and we're looking for more help with running the conference.
EuroPython 2019 Team
For EP2021, we are using a slightly different approach compared to previous years:
All new volunteers will first join the Plaza – our central get-together place for all team members – and only later enter the various workgroups (WGs) we have for running the conference.
Additionally, we will have on-boarding calls with everyone to get to know each other and give an overview to the structures, information and groups we have available, as well as the timeline.
If you are interested in helping, please write to volunteers@europython.eu. Our team will then answer any questions you may have and get you signed up for the next on-boarding call.
To get an idea of the various work fields, please have a look at our workgroup overview.
The site comes with an FAQ page, which lists all the information we have for you at the moment. We're repeating the most important part here:
EuroPython 2021 will be held online from July 26 - August 1, 2021, using the following structure:
two workshop/training days (July 26 - 27)
three conference days (July 28 - 30)
two sprint days (July 31 - August 1)
The next steps are preparing the main conference website, adding content, organizing the call for papers (CFP), setting up the ticket system, the financial aid program, getting everything tested and deployed.
Want to join the fun ?
We'll have busy weeks ahead of us. If you want to help, please consider contacting us with details on where you would like to contribute. Please write to volunteers@europython.eu.
Distributed conferencing
We are also looking into setting up what we call EuroPython Nodes, where attendees can join small groups around the world to attend EuroPython 2021 together. Please see our FAQ entry for details. The idea is still in flux and we'd like to get some feedback from user groups or companies interested in participating.
PS: We have also moved our blog off of Tumblr and onto our own infrastructure. Hope you like the new design.
