The EuroPython website supports buying tickets for other people (friends, colleagues, etc.). As a result, it is necessary to “assign” the tickets you buy to either yourself or someone else. The assignment process is explained below.
Please tell us your preferences
The reason we’re interested in you applying this configuration as soon as possible, is that the tickets include a number of preferences which we need to know about in order to properly prepare the conference.
When assigning tickets you will fill some fields, telling us your t-shirt size and cut (women or men style) and your diet preferences. If you don’t provide this information, we cannot assure we’ll have the right t-shirt available for you. Likewise, if you are vegetarian or vegan, it is important to mark this in the preferences, so that we can order enough vegetarian/vegan food.
How to edit the fields of the ticket
First you need to log in and go to your profile and, if you already bought your tickets, you will see something similar to this. Click in view your tickets.
After you have navigated to the tickets, we need you to assign the ticket: simply hover over the ticket and you will see two options. Please select, if the ticket is for you or for someone else.
Remember: Before assigning the ticket the other persons, these must be registered on the website. Otherwise, the assignment won’t work.
After assigning the ticket, each person to which the tickets are assigned need to fill out the ticket preferences using his/her profile page (don’t forget to click save to store the settings):
Some additional help for the preference form:
Tagline: This line will appear after you name. Be original!
Diet: Omnivorous or Vegetarian/Vegan
Python experience: Whats your experience level with Python?
Dates: Which days do you estimate to come. You are not signing anything. You can put some days and come others. But this helps us to better prepare the conference.
We all know that good food, drinks and music are essential for a perfect EuroPython conference and so we’ve arranged a nice dinner with local food and a party for the evening on Wednesday, July 22nd.
If you want to join the fun, please buy a social event ticket on the same registration form you use to buy conference tickets. There’s a new entry available now called “Pyntxos Social Event” which you can order using the form. Leave the conference tickets fields blank if you only want to purchase social event tickets:
We have 600 tickets available for the conference dinner and party, so please book early. The ticket price includes food and drinks (until midnight) for one person.
From the over 340 proposals, 205 sessions were chosen for EuroPython 2015:
169 talks
11 posters
20 trainings
5 help desks
Many thanks to everyone who submitted proposals. EuroPython wouldn’t be possible without our speakers.
The program work group will now work on the schedule. Given the number of sessions, this may take a while, but we’ll try to get it done as quickly as possible.
There is plenty to see in and around Bilbao. We have worked out a set of interesting tours, together with a local tour company to choose from, for partners and EuroPython attendees alike:
Having received over 300 great proposals for talks, trainings, helpdesks and posters, we now call out to all attendees
to vote for what you want to see on the conference schedule.
You can search for topics and communicate your personal priorities by casting your vote for each submission on our talk voting page:
In short, we will be giving out grants in three categories:
Ticket discounts
Free tickets
Travel costs and accommodation
Anyone who wants to attend EuroPython 2015 can apply, including people who have already purchased tickets. We want to make the event affordable for as many people as possible.
Looking for financial aid sponsors
We are still looking for sponsors to increase the budget we have available for financial aid. If your company would like to sign up as financial aid sponsor, please contact the sponsors team.
We are pleased to announce our next keynote speakers: Ola Sitarska and Ola Sendecka, who kicked off Django Girls with a workshop at EuroPython 2014 last year. Since then the idea has spread around the globe to over 20 countries.
Django Girls
Django Girls is an non-profit oriented organization that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support.
The Keynote
It’s Dangerous To Go Alone, Take This: The Power of a Community
Ola and Ola will take you on a fantastic journey to the magical world of little Liz, who is totally enchanted by technology. The story of Liz will show that with a little bit of magic, curiosity, courage and hard work, you can defeat all the obstacles standing in your way. You’ll discover with her that making big and scary things is easier when you’re not doing them alone. Because sometimes, one magical spell, the helpful hand of a friend or this shiny sparkle is all it takes to make a dent in one’s universe.
Ola Sitarska is a Django Developer at Potato. She started working with Django 6 years ago, when she discovered the power of Django admin and quickly fell in love with the beauty of Python. Last year, Ola started Django Girls, an initiative to inspire more women to become programmers. Together with Ola Sendecka, she also co-authored the Django Girls Tutorial, which has been visited by more than 30.000 people so far. She is also a member of the Django Team and was responsible for the shipping djangoproject.com redesign. In 2015, she became a Django Software Foundation board member. Ola is also known as A Person With The Django Circus Idea™. She thinks her superpower is the unstoppable enthusiasm.
Ola Sendecka is a Python & Django enthusiast and magic maker. She currently works for Potato in London as a Django developer. She loves open-source and she thinks one can open source much, much more than a piece of code. Together with Ola Sitarska she founded Django Girls last year. For her Django Girls is - as she says - an example of open sourcing community and one of the ways to make Python community even better than it is now. Apart from Django Girls Core operations and organising events, she is also a serial Django Girls coach (and she loves teaching!) and Django sprint organizer. She is a Django Team Core member and member of Django Software Foundation. Ola also co-organized Django Con EU 2013 (Circus edition).
The Workshop
At this year’s conference, we will again be hosting a Django Girls workshop. Please see the workshop website for details on how to sign up as an attendee, coach, or support the workshop as sponsor.
PS: Ola & Ola had already confirmed back in February. Thanks to them for their support in keeping this secret for such a long time :-)
We are happy to announce that we will be hosting a Django Girls Workshop during EuroPython 2015. It will take place on 20th of July, the first day of the conference.
We believe in the work that this group is doing to bring more women into technology, and we will work towards making EuroPython 2015 enjoyable and welcoming
for these beginner programmers.
The workshop is free of charge and you must register through their registration form; some financial aid for travel to Bilbao can be provided. The application process closes on May 31st, 2015.
The workshop is organized and coached by volunteers. If you or your company would like to contribute by sponsoring, coaching, or any other help you can provide, please email the organizers at bilbao@djangogirls.org.
