Humans of EuroPython: Sangarshanan

This week we’d love to thank Sangarshanan, a member of the Communications Team at EuroPython 2026.

Unofficially, Sang holds the title of EuroPython’s CMO - Chief Meme Officer. If you’ve ever laughed at our memes, read our posts or watched some of our short videos, you’ve seen for yourself that Sang makes EuroPython unique.

Thank you for your work, Sang!

EP: Before you volunteered this year, had you already been involved in EuroPython?

Yes! I have been volunteering almost every year since 2021.

EP: Is there a task you took care of that most attendees probably don't realise goes on behind the scenes at EuroPython?

Probably all of the memes that you see on our social media! I really love engaging with the community that way.

EP: Were there any surprising or amusing moments during your time volunteering?

So much that I could start a podcast! But one recent moment that comes to mind is when I accidentally scheduled a social media post that auto transcribed someone saying Krakow as Crack Out. This was flagged and removed by our attentive team but I always appreciate how the community handles my - or actually anyone's - mistakes with so much grace, warmth and humor. We even have inside jokes about all the mistakes we made along the way.

EP: What was the biggest surprise for you about volunteering?

How much it is about the people and not really about what you do! If you are working with wonderful, kind, amazing people, any work: mundane or creative becomes so much more fun and fulfilling, and this is the essence of the entire EuroPython community.

EP: What's a small, everyday skill (not a technical one) that volunteering sharpened for you?

I have become much better at interacting with people since I started volunteering because you need to be patient, quick on your feet, and help solve problems onsite. Also being with the communications team, I had no idea how small things like the timings of the social media posts or the title of our blogs affect engagement, I am still learning a lot about all this which is quite cool and interesting.

EP: What makes you keep coming back to volunteer year after year?

This answer gets repeated a lot but it's so true: The people, a lot of whom have become really good friends over the years. An excuse to hang out with them online and meet them in person once a year is good enough for me to volunteer year after year.

EP: Thank you for all your work, Sang!
